Screening, discussion, and book signing with Craig Shemin
To commemorate Jim Henson’s birthday, join us for the launch of the new book Sam and Friends: The Story of Jim Henson’s First Television Show, written by Craig Shemin, our Jim Henson’s World screening series curator and President of The Jim Henson Legacy. Craig will present a special compilation of Jim and Jane Henson’s early Washington, D.C. work, including surviving footage from the early Henson series Sam and Friends, as well as new crisp high-definition transfers of Henson’s Wilkins Coffee commercials. Following the screening, Craig will discuss the book with MoMI’s Deputy Director for Curatorial Affairs, Barbara Miller, and present a newly uncovered Sam and Friends episode, not seen by the public for more than 60 years. All who attend will receive a free gift! Approx. 80 minutes.
Book signing will follow immediately. Books will be available for sale in the Museum Shop and screening attendees will receive a discount on book purchase.
Admission (with ticket included): $15 / $11 senior and students / $9 youth (ages 3–17) / Free or discounted ($11) for MoMI members. Order online. Please pick up tickets at the Museum’s admissions desk upon arrival. All seating is general admission. Review safety protocols before your visit.
