PROJECT MANAGER, SCIENCE AND FILM

The Project Manager for Science & Film will manage all aspects of planning and production of a series of public programs focused on the intersection of art and science. They will oversee program development, execution, and reporting. This role entails a high level of coordination and collaboration between Museum staff and external parties, including non-profits, artists, and scientists. It requires a self-motivated individual able to respond to changing needs and priorities, ask questions when necessary, and work independently. The Project Manager will also assist with the coordination and execution of a large-scale gallery exhibition, including logistics such as artist contracts, image research and permissions, coordinating with scholars, catalogue contributors, and helping to plan public programs. 

Job Responsibilities:

Work with a range of external organizations as well as MoMI staff to plan seven multifaceted, science-focused, free public programs to take place approximately once a month at MoMI between May and October 2025  

Organizing and leading planning calls and meetings to shape content, partner participation, audience participation, hospitality for guests and audiences, flow of events  

Participating in ongoing Open Worlds working group meetings with colleagues and providing feedback .  

  • Drafting event copy 
  • Working with marketing, communications, and graphic design to generate advertisements, press releases, and strategize about outreach and promotion 
  • Working with special events staff to arrange hospitality, including food and drink  
  • Ensuring clear communication about run-of-show and event details amongst internal staff (A/V, visitor experience, program staff, marketing) 
  • Ensuring clear communication about run-of-show and event details with participating organizations, artists, and scientists 
  • Liaising with A/V to prepare and test any audiovisual materials for the programs 
  • Overseeing smooth and successful production of public programs 
  • Working with Visitor Experience to send out surveys to attendees 
  • Compiling survey results and reporting in consultation with Development department  
  • Gathering additional feedback from program participants 
  • Processing and archiving invoices from vendors, tracking expenses against projected budget 
  • Working with the Curator of Science & Technology, assist with various logistical duties related to museum exhibition planning and execution  
  • Helping coordinate artist contracts and correspondence 
  • Assisting with research for image permissions and rights clearances 
  • Helping coordinate amongst exhibition partners including catalogue producers, contributing scholars, and MoMI staff as needed (exhibition manager, marketing and communications, and development) 
  • Assisting with planning for related public programs, including outreach to potential participants, drafting program copy, gathering images, and disseminating information 
  • Other duties as assigned 

Qualifications:

  • Minimum five years relevant experience  
  • Proven skills and experience producing public programs and coordinating with multiple stakeholders 
  • Ability to form and maintain successful working relationships with museum staff and other external contacts, including demonstrating exceptional judgement and professionalism 
  • Detail-oriented and organized, with an ability to think big picture and be focused on logistics 
  • Clear communicator, both verbally and in written form 
  • Interest in science and/or interdisciplinary programming 
  • Flexibility to work nights and weekends at least once/month 
  • Comfort with Microsoft Office Suite, basic budget management skills 
  • Experience in a museum setting a plus 

Job Schedule: Monday through Friday, with some weekend days and evenings. 

Hourly Wage: $35.00 an hour

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt 

Job Title of the Supervisor: Curator of Science and Technology  

Job Status: Part Time, 12-Month Position, three days/week position (possibility for continuation and expansion of responsibilities

MUSEUM EDUCATOR

Museum of the Moving Image seeks well-spoken and outgoing individuals with excellent customer service skills who enjoy working with all ages to join its Media Education department. Museum Educators lead tours, workshops, and courses in moving image education, and work between 8–20 hours per week from Wednesday to Sunday, mornings and afternoons. Hours are flexible, and may vary from week to week. This is a non-exempt position. Museum Educators report to the Director of Education and managerial staff.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Deliver education programs including guided tours, workshops, and screening programs to student groups of all needs and abilities, grades 2 through college, as well as adults and senior citizens
  • Provide excellent customer service and ensure a positive museum-going experience for all visitors
  • Facilitate weekend/holiday family workshops and Moving Image Studio (a drop-in workshop) activities
  • Attend regular meetings of the Education department
  • Additional responsibilities may include assisting Museum instructors with after-school courses, both on-site and off-site; assisting at special events; and serving as a Museum representative for various off-site activities as needed
  • Other administrative duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Undergraduate work or degree in education, game design, film, digital art, media studies, history, or related field
  • Previous experience working with young people strongly preferred
  • Previous experience with object-based and inquiry-based learning is a plus
  • A friendly, courteous, and visitor-focused demeanor
  • Working knowledge of film/media history and/or film/video production, animation, or digital media production a plus
  • Available a minimum of two weekday mornings (Wednesday, Thursday and/or Friday) per week

Part-Time security Guard

Museum of the Moving Image seeks a motivated, licensed part-time Security Guard for this dynamic and rapidly growing cultural institution located in the Kaufman Astoria Arts District in Astoria, New York.​

Job responsibilities include, but not limited to:

  • Patrolling assigned areas within the Museum and its perimeter to protect visitors, staff, artifacts, and the facilities
  • Responding to emergency situations quickly and efficiently, within established guidelines and protocols
  • Providing information and assistance to visitors and staff
  • Reporting incidents and safety/security issues
  • Other tasks as assigned

Requirements:

  • Current NYS Security Guard License
  • NYFD Fire Guard Certificate of Fitness
  • CPR/First Aid/AED Training Preferred
  • Must speak English and possess superb verbal communication and writing skills
  • Excellent personal appearance and general demeanor
  • MUST demonstrate ability to interact in a professional manner with members of the public

Work schedule will vary. Must be flexible. Evening, weekend, and holiday availability is a must.  Prior museum/cultural institution experience is a plus.​
