Dir. Andy Milligan. 1973, 84 mins. U.S., DCP. With Laura Cannon, Neil Flanagan, Harry Reems, Daniel Dietrich, Paul Matthews. Dusty (Cannon) is a street-smart sex worker attempting to leave the life behind for her last shot at love and acceptance. But this is still sleazy, ’70s Times Square—tragedy is lurking around every corner. Filmed in largely queer spaces and in his psychotic, almost cinéma vérité style, this manic melodrama (also known as The Girls of 42nd Street) from Andy Milligan is notable for showcasing a more caring, even sweet side of the director, a significant departure for the typically misanthropic and ghastly grindhouse guru.
