When Thien (Le Phong Vu) discovers that his sister-in-law has unexpectedly died, leaving his five-year-old nephew in his temporary care, he returns from the city to his rural hometown. There, he confronts his past, his longings, and his religious faith, all realized by the director in a series of inventive images and compositions that blur the lines between dream and reality. Inside the Yellow Cocoon Shell is a remarkable cinematic experience, a work that pushes past set boundaries to become genuinely existential, marking the arrival of a major new talent.
