All funds raised at the Moving Image Awards help support MoMI’s exhibitions, screenings, and education and community engagement programs, which serve youth, adults, and their families across all of New York and beyond.
The Honorees
John Turturro is an actor and director whose film credits include Do the Right Thing, Barton Fink, Quiz Show, The Big Lebowski, The Truce, O Brother, Where Art Thou?, and The Room Next Door. He directed six films, including Mac, which won the Caméra d’Or at Cannes. On stage, Turturro won an Obie for Danny and the Deep Blue Sea and appeared in The Resistible Rise of Arturo Ui, End Game, and Sabbath’s Theater. On television, Turturro won an Emmy for his role on Monk and starred in HBO’s The Night Of and The Plot Against America and is currently seen on season 2 of Apple’s series Severance.
Tom Rothman is the longest-serving motion picture studio head of the modern era. During his exceptionally long career, Rothman has worked on over 500 films. As Chairman and CEO of Sony Pictures Entertainment’s Motion Picture Group for over a decade, he has led the studio to multiple years of record profitability. Some of the many enduring films made during his tenure include Best Picture Oscar nominees Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, Little Women, Call Me by Your Name, and I’m Still Here, Best Animated Oscar winner Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, commercial hits such as Jumanji, Bad Boys, and Uncharted, and the highest grossing film in Columbia history, Spider-Man: No Way Home. Dedicated to the theatrical experience, he has brought multiple topflight filmmakers to the studio, including Quentin Tarantino, Greta Gerwig, Danny Boyle, Sam Mendes, Darren Aronofsky, Edgar Wright, and Ang Lee.
