July at MoMI: Fleischer cartoons, Tom Cruise movies, Salsa Nights, MoMI in the Garden, and more
July 1, 2025
A/C ✅ This year MoMI underwent a major renovation of our HVAC system. All of our spaces feel cool and refreshing; enjoy a film, explore our exhibitions, come face to face with a Muppet, and more! Special thanks to NYC Department of Citywide Administrative Services (NYCDCAS) and Queens Borough President Donovan Richards, Jr. for their support.
This July, MoMI presents a robust slate of summer movies to enjoy on the big screen in air-conditioned comfort, free community programs as part of our Open Worlds initiative, and a wide array of exhibitions for all ages. In conjunction with the popular exhibition Mission: Impossible—Story and Spectacle, MoMI is presenting a 22-film retrospective of Tom Cruise, including Born on the Fourth of July, Jerry Maguire, Magnolia, and more. Other major series are Summer Saturdays with Dolby Atmos, including a 3-D screening of Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, and See It Big: 70mm!, kicking off July 31 with Stanley Kubrick’s 2001: A Space Odyssey.
To coincide with the release of a new Superman movie in theaters, starting July 10, the Museum will present a selection of Max Fleischer Superman animated shorts from the 1940s in Tut’s Fever Movie Palace, a working theater and artwork by Red Grooms and Lysiane Luong in its core exhibition Behind the Screen. In addition, on July 12, the Museum will present a program of silent Fleischer Studios films accompanied by live music by Charlie Judkins, in its Redstone Theater. All films were recently restored.
As part of Open Worlds free community programming, on July 11 and 18, the Museum will host two Salsa Nights, in partnership with the New York State Latino Restaurant Association; and on July 12, the science-centered program MoMI in the Garden features screenings and activities focusing on urban gardening. Other Open Worlds programs will be announced as they are confirmed.
Additional special screenings include Os Afro-Sambas: The Brazil of Baden and Vinícius introduced by Brazilian music expert DJ Greg Caz; Ballpark Blockbuster: An Evening with NY Mets Game Director John DeMarsico; short films by Italian experimental filmmaker Giuseppe Boccassini; and a Doris Wishman double feature.
