Black Rio! Black Power!

This documentary explores the transformative power of soul music in 1970s Rio de Janeiro, where dance events became crucial spaces for the political affirmation and resistance of the young black community. Screening 7/21, co-presented by Brasil Summerfest and introduced by DJ and musicologist Greg Caz.

Join us for a special event, in which the full reel of eight Soundies from our current exhibition Coin-Operated Treasures: Black-Cast Soundies from the Astoria Studios will play on 16mm on the Museum's Panoram machine.
